Doabook — Privacy Policy
Doabook is an Android app that translates books you already have and lets you read or listen to them. This policy explains exactly what leaves your phone, why, and who receives it.
The short version
- Your books stay on your phone. Nothing is uploaded except the text that is being translated.
- No account is needed to use the app. Signing in with Google is optional and only raises the free daily translation allowance.
- We do not sell personal data, and the app contains no analytics or tracking SDK other than Google AdMob for ads.
Who is responsible
Doabook is developed and operated by an individual developer. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to 1937560522@qq.com.
What the app handles, and why
Books you import
Books you import (.txt, .epub, .pdf, .fb2,
.mobi, .azw3) are stored only in the app's own storage on your phone,
together with their translations, your underlines and notes, and your reading position. They are
not uploaded anywhere, are not readable by us, and are deleted when you delete the book or
uninstall the app.
Text sent for translation
To translate a chapter, the text of that chapter is sent, a few paragraphs at a time, to a translation service:
- By default, to Doabook's own cloud function hosted on Tencent CloudBase (Shanghai, China), which passes the text to Tencent's Hunyuan translation model and returns the translation. The text is used only to produce that translation; Doabook does not store the text of your books on the server.
- If you configure your own model provider in Settings → Translation model, the text goes directly from your phone to that provider (for example OpenAI, DeepSeek, Google or another service you choose) using your own API key, under that provider's terms and privacy policy. It does not pass through Doabook's servers, and your API key is stored only on your phone and sent only to that provider.
Free-allowance counting
The free translation allowance is counted per day. For this, requests to Doabook's own service carry:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| A random identifier created by the app on first launch | To keep one phone's daily allowance separate from another's. It is not derived from your device's hardware or advertising identifiers, and a new one is created if you clear the app's data. |
| Your IP address (seen by the server, as with any internet request) | To apply a daily ceiling per address, which protects the service against automated abuse. |
| The number of words and an estimate of the tokens translated, and the date | To apply the daily allowance and the service's overall ceiling. |
These counters are stored in the developer's CloudBase database. They contain no book text and no name, and are used for nothing except the limits described here.
Signing in with Google (optional)
If you sign in, the app obtains a Google ID token and sends it with translation requests. The server verifies the token with Google and stores only your Google account's numeric identifier as the key of your allowance counter. Your e-mail address is shown in the app's settings and is kept on your phone; it is not stored on the server. You can sign out at any time in Settings → Account. Signing in gives no access to your Google data beyond your basic account identity.
App integrity checking
Requests may carry a Google Play Integrity token, which Google issues to confirm that the request comes from the genuine app on a genuine device. The token is decoded through Google's service and discarded; it tells us nothing about you personally, and exists to keep the service from being abused by automated scripts.
Help & Feedback
If you send a message through Settings → Help & Feedback, we receive the message, the contact detail you choose to include (optional), the app version, your Android version and your device model. These are stored in the developer's database and e-mailed to the developer so that we can reply and fix problems. Do not include information you would rather not share.
Advertising
The app shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use data — including your device's advertising identifier and information about ads you see — as described in Google's privacy and terms. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent form from Google is shown before personalised ads are used, and your choice is respected. Doabook itself does not receive the data AdMob collects.
Reading aloud
The Listen feature hands the text to the text-to-speech engine installed on your phone. Some engines (for example Google's) may process text on their own servers according to their own policies; that processing is outside Doabook's control. The app does not record audio and does not use the microphone.
Permissions the app asks for
- Internet — to translate, and to show ads.
- Notifications — to show translation progress and the player controls while a chapter is read aloud.
- Foreground service — so reading aloud and translating continue while the screen is off.
- The app reads a file you choose only when you pick it yourself in the import dialog. It does not browse your storage, contacts, location, camera or microphone.
How long data is kept
- Books, translations, notes and settings: on your phone until you delete them or uninstall the app.
- Allowance counters: kept as short daily records in the developer's database and deleted when they are no longer needed for these limits.
- Feedback messages: kept while they are useful for support, and deleted on request.
Sharing
Data is shared only with the services named above — Tencent CloudBase and Tencent's translation model (for the built-in translation), Google (sign-in verification, Play Integrity and AdMob), any model provider you configure yourself, and the developer's e-mail provider for feedback messages. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared for advertising profiling by Doabook.
Your choices and rights
- Use the app without signing in; sign out at any time.
- Use your own model provider, so that no book text reaches Doabook's servers at all.
- Clear the app's data, or uninstall it, to remove everything held on the phone.
- Ask for the deletion of your allowance counters or feedback messages by writing to 1937560522@qq.com. Depending on where you live you may also have the right to access, correct or object to the processing of your data; the same address handles those requests.
Children
Doabook is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
